The Roots Of Suzuki Motorcycles
Founded by Michio Suzuki in 1909, the company originally made weaving looms as its major product, and was known as the Suzuki Loom Company. By 1929, the company had made exceptional weaving machines which were exported outside of Japan. It was truly a sign for just how exceptional the quality of Suzuki looms were. Eventually, Suzuki entertained the notion of producing another type of product, and by 1937, started on the development of a practical new product venture, the compact car. Within two years, various concept prototypes of the Suzuki car were made, which eventually ended with the development of the first Suzuki motor vehicle. These automobiles were powered by four stroke, four cylinder engines which were liquid cooled. The first generation Suzuki cars generated a 13 horsepower rating, from a displacement figure of less than 800cc. These were quite impressive machines, and were greatly accepted by the mass market. Eventually, Suzuki once again entertained the thought of producing motorcycles, other than just automobiles. From weaving looms, to automobiles to motorcycles, the Suzuki Loom Company eventually change its name into Suzuki Motor Corporation, producing automobiles and motorcycles. Suzuki motorcycles didn't come out from production until 1952. Two-stroke engines practically dominated Suzuki motorcycles' "source of power" until the 1970s, with the Suzuki GT750 being the biggest of two-stroke engine Suzuki motorcycles. The GT750 Suzuki motorcycles line boasted a water cooled triple-cylinder engine, and was quite the "speed demon" during those days. Come 1976, Suzuki motorcycles went through a dramatic "make over" as four stroke engines were introduced into Suzuki motorcycles. The Suzuki GS400 and GS750 are among the first four-stroke Suzuki motorcycles ever made, which eventually established Suzuki motorcycles as competent speed machines, worthy of being titled as sport motorcycles. Today, Suzuki motorcycles are known contenders in motorcycle speed competitions, establishing a reputation of truly fast motorcycles. Suzuki motorcycles also rank as superior off-road motorcycles, being constant entries into various motocross events, winning various competitions against other motorcycle brands. Scooters are also among the ranks of Suzuki motorcycles, as well as ATV's and dual-purpose/dual-sport motorcycles. With its slogan which goes: Way of Life, Suzuki motorcycles truly live up to the ideals behind it. |
