The Mindset Of Sport Touring Motorcycles

Sport touring motorcycles are pretty much the result of blending a performance motorcycle, with that of long distance capabilities. The comfort and safety of a rider is also a major concern among sport touring motorcycles, as the dangers of long distance driving brings drivers at risk.

Over the years, the concept of sport touring motorcycles has evolved. From the simple "saddle bags", which are basically strap bags, saddled onto a motorcycle's sides, to the now "desk drawer" look commonly associated with sport touring motorcycles. Also among the "evolutions" of sport touring motorcycles, though not directly, would be ergonomic accessories like luggage compartments and/or straps, which drivers have the option of installing into their sport touring motorcycle.

Most sport touring motorcycles come out from production lines with improvements and enhancements over their preceding model versions. It isn't uncommon to see a version B sport touring motorcycle with the same engine type as a version A sport touring motorcycle. What would be common would be to see particular enhancements over the newer model of sport touring motorcycle.

Sport touring motorcycles' engines come from sport bike origins. They are often re cammed, as the improvement of a sport bike's valve cam improves an engine's running duration. More focus is dedicated on a sport touring motorcycles' torque, rather than top speed. Improved reliability is achieved with changing the rotating subcomponents of a sport bike, like the flywheel and the crankshaft, often changed with heavier part versions which result to smoother performance.

On a general scale, sport touring motorcycles differ from sport bikes in the following areas:

Frame - sport touring motorcycles, though taking their cues from sport bikes, have frames redesigned from scratch, ideally yielding to a setup more conducive for comfortable riding, compared to the "aggressive rider position" most sport bikes tend to put drivers to.

Over All Component Size - sport touring motorcycles have larger implemented components, compared with sport bikes. This is done for added protection to the rider, as well as for the motorcycle's engines, which are bound to run under conditions of wind and rain.
Longer Wheel Base - this assures riders a more comfortable steering experience, contrasting, again, the more "aggressive driver" stance sport bikes illicit from drivers.

Ground Clearance - as sport touring motorcycles deal with various terrain, the ground clearance of sport touring motorcycles are higher compared with sport bikes, giving sport touring motorcycles more versatile capabilities when it comes to dealing with rough terrain.

All in all, sport touring motorcycles are the result of the combination between cruisers and sport bikes, all rolled into one package.
